ShotEdit is designed so core image tools process files locally in your browser whenever possible. This includes image compression, image conversion, PDF to JPG rendering, rounded corners, screenshot editing, and browser-side image upscaling.
Information We Process
- Files you choose for local tools stay in your browser and are not uploaded to ShotEdit servers for those local workflows.
- If you create an account, sign in, or manage billing, account and subscription data is processed by Clerk and Stripe so we can provide authentication, subscription status, checkout, and billing management.
- If you use Pro AI features such as AI background removal or AI background generation, the selected image, prompt, preset, or task metadata needed for that feature may be sent to the relevant processing provider. Those workflows are labeled separately from local browser-only tools.
- Basic technical data such as request metadata, IP address, browser information, device information, pages visited, and referrer may be processed by hosting, security, analytics, and performance providers.
How AI Tools Handle Your Files
AI tools cannot run in your browser, so they follow a different path from the local tools. When you start an AI job, this is exactly what happens to your file:
- Your image is sent to ShotEdit over an encrypted HTTPS connection and written to a temporary object store (Cloudflare R2) so the AI provider can read it.
- A processing request is sent to our AI provider, which returns the finished image. The result is passed straight back to your browser and is not stored on ShotEdit servers.
- The temporary copy of your original is deleted as soon as the job reaches a final state, whether it succeeded or failed. If a job is abandoned before it finishes — for example you close the tab mid-run — the leftover copy is removed automatically within 24 hours by a storage lifecycle rule.
- Your images are never used to train models and are not shared with anyone beyond the provider performing the requested job.
Every tool shows a badge above its upload area saying whether it runs in your browser or on our servers, so you can tell which path a given tool uses before you upload anything.
Service Providers
ShotEdit may rely on Cloudflare for hosting, security, caching, and operational logs; Google Analytics for aggregate product analytics when analytics is enabled; Clerk for authentication; Stripe for payments and subscription management; and AI processing providers for Pro AI features. These providers process data only as needed to operate the website and requested features.
Use of Data
We use processed data to provide the tools you request, keep the service reliable, understand aggregate usage, prevent abuse, manage accounts and subscriptions, and improve ShotEdit.
Data Sharing
We do not sell your files or account data. We share data with service providers only when needed to provide hosting, security, analytics, authentication, payments, or requested AI processing.
Data Retention
Local tool files are processed in your browser and are not retained by ShotEdit servers for those workflows. Files uploaded for AI tools are deleted as soon as the job finishes, and in all cases within 24 hours. Account, billing, analytics, security, and AI processing records may be retained by the relevant providers according to operational, legal, security, and billing needs.
Your Rights
You may request access, correction, or deletion of personal data associated with your ShotEdit account where applicable. You can also use browser controls or privacy tools to limit cookies, analytics, and local storage.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time, and the latest version will be posted on this page.
